Tire & Rim Mfgr's Association makes a list of approved rim/tire combinations and there's almost always a "Second Recommended" combination. I think the 12 X 38 rim IS the second rim recomendation for 15.5 X 38's. Do a search on FIRESTONE and they have a LOT of ag tire info on their site. One thing is very clear when You look at the charts.... You can put a tire on a narrower rim, but You CAN NOT put a tire on a rim WIDER than the recommended one.
