I am in the auto restoration business and use two local machine shops...one for engine rebuilding and one for general "I screwed up" type jobs. Both are two man shops where the wives work the phone and office. These two small shops are absolutely gods as far as my business is concerned. I broke three head bolts off in an old Wisconsin engine and the one machine shop charged $40 to remove them and retap the holes. The other shop that rebuilds Buick engines for me has done remarkable work that is well-respected by my coustomers and is greatly appreciated by me. The engine shop charges $50 an hour and the other general shop charges $40 an hour. Well worth the money in both cases. They both do walk-in business and neither does large contract work. They are both in the Phoenix, AZ area, and, like me, they both have major rent and utility expenses. Bottom line....if you are good and fair, people will respect that and you will prosper. Mooches are mooches. Forget them and concentrate on people who appreciate your talents and are willing to pay for it!! Go for it and all the best of luck.......Greg
