Scott, Just because your rims are rusted, doesn't mean you have a leak in the tube...cacl itself does not cause corosion, cacl mixed with air does. Often times, a tire filled to a level over the rim witout a tube is preferrable as no air contacts the rim. Condensation going through the the tube mixing with lots of air makes for a very corosive environment. If you need the weight, just go with winter formula windshield washer fluid. It is cheap (best price I have found is Wal Mart by the gal...about .67 per), easy to use (a cheap submersible pump, a garden hose, and a water valve from NAPA), and you can do it yourself. It weighs about a pound and a half less than properly mixed cacl, but still provides good weight, and won't get ya fined or kill your dog if ya have a flat like antifreeze will. We put an 8oz bottle of waterbed conditioner in each tire to combat algea, and have had very good luck. Like you, I am in NY, so go with the -35 winter weight stuff!
