John, I did this on my MM UTS as well and you are right the alt still sending current to the coil keeps her running. I heard of the diode trick but just haven't done anything about it. As mine is LP, I usually shut the fuel off and let the line go dry anyway to keep pressure off the LP regulator when ready to shut down. I find they run very poorly without fuel! I am gonna do the diode trick however. Thanks.
