Larry, Some old numbers Ive heard tossed around say you need around 15 to 20 hp per bottom. The AC Tractor advantage, when coupled with their own snap mtd. plows and using their draft control, was that it could pull a 3x14 plow real well. They would not (I agree with Norm 100%) pull a pull plow near as well. The advantage of the correct mounted draft control plow is that the force of the plow assists in traction over a pull unit. Ive heard many brag that the WD 45 with its mounted 3x14 could out plow the M's and JD A's and Oliver 77 etc all day and I agree with that because the draft control and mounting imoroves traction over pull plows. As to pulling, it depends so much on the soil like wet clay versus drier sand and hills versus level that its hard to say what a tractor really pulls well. If you have to constantly cheat and raise the plow depth and piddle around in first gear, I say thats not really pulling a plow right. If you can pull in third gear or so at a decent depth without cheating, thats what I say it will really pull. In summary, I say a 3x14 mounted plow is okay (Still, two better in wet clay or hills), but a 3x14 pull plow is too much for your AC. Thats my story (opinion) and Im stickin to it. John T
