The older temp. gauges I've seen are all one piece. They consist of a metallic bulb, containing a liquid that expands on increasing temperature, connected as one to a capillary tube that opens to a diaphram connected to an indicator needle. To use, the bulb is inserted in the tractor engine's coolant stream. The expanding liquid deflects the needle. They are not repairable; but not expensive, either. Check with your dealer.
