Along with a program like this will come yet another department for each state as well as on the federal level. More workers required and management that absorb most of the gain. Seems to me that toll roads are a pay per mile situation and to be honest a lot of them are in disrepair as well. Paying by the gallon used to work better, as the more you drove the more you pay. If you wanted to save money you would by a vehicle producing more miles per gallon. Makes you wonder if the government didnt want high mileage vehicles as they knew it would cost them tax dollars. Hybrids and EV's are what's stirring the pot. Elecric rates are already on the rise and will continue to do so as some has to pay for all these charging stations, and it won't isolated to just the EV user. Perhaps they leave the feul tax alone, and put responsibility on the EV. EV's will more than likely need to be cared for by the dealers, so maybe the dealers should be the ones reporting the mileage to the required state or fed division. More than likely they will be entering that info somewhere anyway. Don't see where state by state matters for passenger vehicles as it doesn't now.
