I went 5 years loved the job. First year guy had 3 Massey's And poor old chevy trucks 2 single axles and a dumby tandem to pull combines with and hauling grain. Took the cart from KS to SD then back to KS. Second guy had 69600's and a couple 8820's. went 3 years with him from KS down to TX then back north to SD over to MT then ID and finished at his place in the San Louis Valley in CO. I liked working for him the best of all of them. The second year he had 10 9600's He bought some of the older multicolored Farmers Oil in Anthony KS. Trucks from them to pull combine with 2 heads on in front the combine on the tail. 3 grain carts 1 840 Kinze and 2 1240 Kinze's. The 840 pulled with a 4955Deere and the 1240's pulled with a 876 Versatile Blue one and the other with a Stieger. The Stieger would go anyplace you pointed it with the cart full. The Versatile was a bit light for the job till he put the duals on. The 4955 was a good match for the 840 cart. Then he had 5 tandems with pups for them and 4or 5 semi's. Used to cut about 1000-1200 acres per day with that set up. I used to do most any thing needed done from wrenching to combine, truck, or cart. He cut everything from Wheat to Milo corn,soybeans and sunflowers. One year he went to MS to cut the soybeans took 3 machines and compliment of trucks and cart. The third guy was a little outfit in SD 3 9600.s and 3 trucks. Kenworth Cabover pulling doubles when needed and single most of the time with a 4200 on the pup. And a regular tandem or 2 with out pups on them. From OK to SD with corn and soybeans in SD. Got lots of pictures of first 2 guys and third did to much running back to get equipment to take many pictures. Would run back during the night load in the morning and be back with the crew by end of day.
