When I bought my first car with seatbelts, I tucked them under the seat out of sight. In cars I got after that, I decided to wear them.
When my son bought his first car in 1979 while still in H.S.; he had taken already taken "Driver Ed".
That first car was a '72 Gran Torino Sport 351 CJ which was a pretty fast car.
Unfortunately, he wrecked it at somewhere North of 100 mph, jumping a guard rail, tumbling down a 50' embankment and landing upside down on a frozen pond. Three of the things they tried to teach him in Driver's Ed was don't drink and drive, don't speed and always wear your seatbelt. The night he wrecked his car, he followed only one of those; wear your seatbelt. He was a very fortunate lad in that other than some scratches, bruises and a very sore hip that had broken off the Hurst shifter, He was treated and released from the hospital right away. I have had more respect for seatbelts since then.
