If you use a backblade, where will you mount 55-gal drums? (The ones you see may be filled with concrete.) According to JD's 3020 Tractor Operator's Manual, a tire 11.2 x 24 filled to 75% volume (stem level) with a solution of 3.5 lb CaCl2/gal of water, will form slush at about -12F, be solid at -52F. Ballast added: 228 lb. For 12.4 x 24, 305 lb. For 13.6 x 38, 520 lb. For 16.9 x 30, 656 lb. You will get about 90% of the weight with 2 lb/gal (slush at +13F), and 110% with 5 lb/gal (slush at -53F). Although CaCl2 is messy and corrosive to metal, it is probably less so than table salt (NaCl). CaCl2 is no real problem, before or after you use it, if you use it in correct concentrations in a good tube.
