I have been using these "vintage" tractors for years in all kind of weather and I always use the cheapest regular gas I can buy. These days that's 87 octane. In the summer I bush hog with a AC WD45 in temperatures up to 95 degrees and when I lived in Michigan I plowed snow and cut wood in temperatures as low as 0 degrees. With the realitivly low compression ratios of these engines, there is no need and in my opinion, no advantage in using higher octane.
