If fuel isn't coming through the filter after setting a couple months, and you didn't forget to turn the tank valve back on, your fuel system certainly has a problem.
On another note, personally I would have changed the fuel filter, not just bleed the lines, and made sure the fuel flow was good before ever trying to start a freshly rebuilt pump to protect my investment.
