1971 Ford 3000 8 Speed, Live PTO.
I snapped my PTO shaft off right where it comes out of the tractor. I replaced it with a new one, and the PTO spins just fine. I put the clutch all the way in to shift the PTO lever to disengaged, and the lever wouldn't budge (the PTO stopped spinning though).
One issue while replacing the shaft that may be relevant: The Shop Manual procedure said to engage the PTO lever before removing the shaft. I did that, but when testing out the replacement shaft by itself I pulled the shaft to remove it and it seemed to be stuck so I pulled hard. The Shift Lever disengaged and the shaft came out. The Shift Collar dropped down a little, but I was able to push it back to the right position with the new shaft. I don't remember when in this process I pulled the shift lever back to engaged but I did somewhere along the way.
So: What have I done?
How do I fix it?
Can I use the tractor & PTO temporarily or is that going to make it worse?
