DCM / CMP programs offered these for years, luck of the draw but you could end up with a numbers matching springfield armory, an
M1C or M1D sniper variation, or any variation there of. I always thought that was a great program because of what it was about,
civilian marksmanship and all the related training, we used to have events at the local range and I enjoyed these competitions to
no end. Always outscored my friends that came along lol, it was a lot of fun regardless of how well I did, but seemed I was a
natural with these and they allowed my Springfield M1A in the competitions, so I could shoot either. Now, owning one of these in
full mil spec (semi auto obviously) is a crime in NYS and alleged to soon be in the US. M1 garands are not so plentiful now
through CMP, nor are M1 carbines. Most were well used, but still, you could get decent grades of them.

Heck, I used to frequent Gun Parts Corp's store quite a bit, they had racks of these that had been re-worked into good shooters,
same with the carbines and they were real cheap, this was the 90's. Last darned carbine I saw at a gun shop, they wanted $3K for a
vintage one !

For that amount, far better to get 2 of the latest exceeding mil spec manufacture from Fulton Armory, brand new and they shoot
nicely without any problems, cause they are brand new manufacture.

What was nice about the US in years past, none of the above was frowned upon, people were not driven to hoard things in fear of
what the gov't might do and all the other nonsense. What we are living through now, it's just hard to accept, knowing the majority
of people know how to handle a firearm, we suffer the consequences of those who cannot handle the responsibility and have no value
for human life.

Well anyways, fun topic, used to love to shoot the older US military rifles, always a lot of fun, umlike the times we are going
through now, look forward to when things get back to normal and hope they do, but my faith is dwindling just the same, still fun
to talk about though LOL !

Today's Featured Article - Harvestin Hay: The Early Years (Part 2) - by Pat Browning. The summer of 1950 was the start of a new era in farming for our family. I was thirteen, and Kathy (my oldest sister) was seven. At this age, I believed tractor farming was the only way, hot stuff -- and given a chance I probably would have used the tractor, Dad's first, a 1936 Model "A" John Deere, to go bring in the cows! And I think Dad was ready for some automation too. And so it was that we acquired a good, used J. I. Case, wire tie hay baler. In addition to a person to drive th ... [Read Article]
