Listen up, guys, because I'm going to tell you this once. We all have and are entitled to our own opinions. All major manufacturers have produced successful tractors and should be credited with due respect, not slandered. Do this out of respect for the hobby. Now with that out of the way, I can offer my own opinions. The guy wants a JD but knows little about them. Okay. The two cylinder tractor worked, but was a poor idea. Sure, it sounds neat-o, if all you want to do is sit around and listen to it. But if you want a tractor you can actually use and enjoy using, you should be looking at the Olivers. These six cylinder beauties will put a put-put to shame in sound, power, performance, looks, and RELIABILITY. This is not to say that JDs didn't work, just not nearly as well or as smoothly as their more advanced Oliver counterparts. For example, JD's own balers could not even be properly run by their own tractors because the gap in power output and the power surges from only one engine firing per revolution made the knotters miss...not a problem with a 6 cylinder Oliver that also has live pto, I might add..first in the industry. This brings up another point that must be raised. JD's huge financial prosperity is indicative only of marketing success, not necessarily engineering success. So to claim that JD is the only remaining manufacturer to survive without a merger or takeover because they made the best products is not logical. However, Deere was an aggressive marketer and used the latest technologies usually developed by Oliver, thank you very much, to persuade farmers to buy JD. That is why they are where they are today.
