I don’t know if you were answering me when you say ...I know it doesn’t ... in regard to me saying the number doesn’t show up on a web search. If so, I looked into it a little more and it seems very possible you just typed the numbers wrong. It seems likely you actually have a 2656, see link. Not that it makes all the difference in the world but it is nice to know particulars of a machine when diagnosing a problem. One thing that can be overlooked is the fan belt or more specifically the wear of the belt pulleys. Not pointing fingers because I don’t know if you are the first owner of this tractor or the 5th, if the belt was run loose or really worn down the pulley grooves can get worn. The belt then bottoms in the groove and slips because it cannot wedge in the pulley in the ..V.. to gain proper driving contact. If it is doing this it also will not squeal like normal when it is slipping. The pulley on the fan is the one that is most important to have good belt contact. The only fix for this problem is replacement of the pulley. The crank pulley is less critical because it is a larger diameter, but it can also give the same problem. Also keep the belt tight, as in tight enough to turn the engine when you grab the fan and turn it. These folks that preach about the belt is to tight you will knock out the bearings that is just not true. The bearings were designed to take that amount of stress. We had a 656 on the farm and I can’t remember if the fan mounted on the water pump or if it had its own mount bearings and drive pulley. Another thing is the hydraulic oil cooler in front of the radiator CLEAN and NO hydraulic leaks up there? Also saying that straight water is better than properly mixed antifreeze is not 100 percent correct either. A proper mix of antifreeze and a good pressure cap go a long way towards making the cooling system perform best. Hope this helps!
