I have rewired tractors both ways. Buying a repo harness is by far the easiest. If your tractor is pretty much stock then that is the way to go. I have hand wired two tractors and it is time consuming. As you have mentioned its hard to find wire in different colors and gauges. You can look at automotive restoration sites on line to find manufactures of repo quality wire. The type with a solid color and a marker stripe for instance. It is going to be expensive to do it that way. If you use what wire that is found locally you label them on each end. I did the tractors that I hand wired that way.
