well my last fling of the big ugly stuff that i hauled paid vary well and usually over 8 bucks a mile and higher.. made for nice weekly take home pays at 30 % drivers wages . Only used escorts a couple times . I enjoyed the challenge of hauling . Truly enjoyed moving tire presses , just under needing escort and only 68000 and change on the deck and only 14.4 high . Usually took three days from load to unload . Load on Tuesday morning and if i had the day light i could make it over half way there before curfew , next day drop the load at the plant and go to the truck stop for the night . Next morning untarp and back in the plant next to where the press was to be set in the line they would pick it up and i would pull out . The rigging crew would help me gather up all my junk and i would make one phone call and be headed for the next load and on to the house . I delt with one broker down close to where the presses went and she would have me a fantastic load heading back towards the house for a Monday drop. On the off week i was kept vary busy with Gradalls out of the plant and there i was able to load and go at any time i got there ,i was the only one allowed to load and go with no help . That was fantastic hauling . Most were a bit heavy but were legal size . Like i said MOST . I did move one that was not . She was 15.5 wide 15 .6 tall with 12 foot sticking out the back and 79 and change setting on the deck going to Ne. That load was a sight seeing tour , Took a full day and a halt to get thru Ohio , the next day was spent getting thru In. and the next day Il, Iowa and a half day to the mine in Ne. That load was laced with all kinds of problems First night when i pulled into a truck stop as i set the brakes the tractor protection valve let go and had to have my escort take me to a I H dealer for a new one and replace that . I got four hours of sleep , the next night i lost all the lights on the trailer and had to replace the main trailer wires from the neck to the back .The next night i had and air bag start leaking and had to replace that , next morning when i did my walk around i looked up and my disco lights were out . The only good thing was the weather was good.

Today's Featured Article - The Day Mom Drove the 8N - by Brian Browning. My Dad was wanting to put in a garden but couldn't operate the 8N and handle the old horse drawn plow he had found and rigged up to use with the tractor. Well, he decided to go get Mom out of the house and have her drive the tractor while he walked behind the plow. You got to understand that while my Mom is a hard worker who will always help whenever she can... she had never operated farm machinery before that day. Dad got her out there, explained how the clutch was the same as in our o ... [Read Article]
