Here's my penny and a half on this. (1) the DT 466 is longer and that means she will have to move back into the cab , so now ya need a dog house, then the org trans back engine mounts have to be moved.. And so will start the never ending of how am i going to make this fit . Ya want a truck with a DT 466 then BUY a truck with a 466 in it from the factory . Good god they are everywhere . Every once in a while the fever comes over me that i want another BIG truck , even have had thoughts of doing away with my trusty 95 Dodge 3500 and stepping up to and S model , the only way to get these GOOFY ideaws out my head is to charge the old dead tree head first and when the stars and moons fade away i'll get back up off the ground and go have a beer. This brings back all the momerys of truck ownership . All the fun of working on the brakes all the fun of keeping up with lights and wiring problems , the higher cost of plates and insurance Plus the big target that you just placed on your back with every DOT cop out there today. Bad enough with a one ton and a tandem dual goose neck . You may also find that OH wait i thought that this would have more power , well they don't and even with the newer up grade turbo and turning up the wick they are a bit doggy. Brakes are another thing IF you have never worked on Juice brakes in a ton and a half or larger They are no like a car or pick up , they are a pain top keep working , on older trucks they did not have a dual system and if you blew a brake line you had NO brakes , Brake adjusters freeze up all the time and you have to pull the wheels and drums IF you can get the drums off to get to the adjusters if the drums are woren and you can get the adjuster to back off like usual let the fun begin . 98% of people who own ton and a half and larger trucks gas and diesel do not know how to adjust the brakes . There has to be over a quarter million used trucks out there for sale that you can buy the way you want to some degree , most were box trucks with long frames , i can tell you this , it is a lot easier to move the back axle and cross member shorten the drive shaft and cut off what you don't want then it is to take a gasser and make a diesel out of.
