Was there really an Essex Tri-Directional Tractor ?

A friend of mine put me onto this site after telling me about a tractor called the Essex Tri-Directional. Apparently there has been quite a discussion about it on this website. Now, I am a pretty good reference for the orphan and oddball tractors (I see one of the forums down below here is named that) but to tell you the truth, there is NO information on it in any tractor archives or history books. I think somebody has pulled the wool over your eyes on this one. There was an Essex Corporation that made motorcars during the early years but certainly no tractor, at least that I know of. And when you think of it, what would Tri-Directional really mean in farming? If anyone could provide any information on where I might find out about these (if they really exist) I'd surely appreciate it.
