97 Dodge Caravan

I know this is off subject, BUT.... Just got the van back from the transmission shop. It's a 1997 Dodge Caravan with 70000 miles and the transmission went to pot. Had to have a complete rebuild. My "friendly" Dodge dealer quoted me $1900 to fix it. My tranny expert said $1200 for a complete overhaul, needless to say, he's the one that fixed it. I called up Dodge to tell them about my problem and they said they were not aware of any such problems with that particular model and told me there was nothing they could do and to have a nice day. When I called up my tranny guy, he told me that it was a very common problem with them, especially if they are driven around town any at all. He said they are usually gone by 90000. You'd think Dodge would notice all the parts going of the shelf and realize a problem here. I think this is ridiculous that I didn't get better mileage from a transmission than this. My 1979 Ford truck went to 180000 miles before I rebuilt it and that was because it was leaking fluid like crazy. Just wondering if anyone else has had the same problem I did. I know there's a lot of them on the road.
