The only "proof" that Skeptics use to claim climatologist once predicted an imminent Ice Age is a single, non-peer reviewed article that appeared in (I think) Time magazine. Thats it. One article in a general circulation magazine. Even in the '70's scientist working for Exxon had concluded that uncontrollable fossil-fuel burning would cause the planet to get hotter over time- something other scientist had realized as far back as the end of the 19th. century.
Of course, if you are looking at LONG TERM climate, then the planet will experience Ice Ages in the future. We are still in the geologic era called the Holocene which is defined by the several dozen Ice Ages that have occurred within it over the past few million years. The last major planetary glacial event ended roughly 12,000 years ago, the next one will probably be in another 8-10 thousand years, so yes, that lone article is kinda correct in the long term, but in the next few centuries (barring some unforseen event or technological advance) humans will temporarily make the planet unsuitable for many lifeforms, including a large population of resource consuming people.
It's an anthropocentric myth that the earth is in danger of being destroyed by humans.The Earth will not be destroyed until about 5 billion years into the future when the sun exhausts all its hydrogen fuel and expands into a Red Giant. Then it will first incinerate and them engulf the inner planets before contracting into a cold, Brown Dwarf star. No worries though, Humans and every present modern species will have been extinct for billions of years before the Sun even begins to go off sequence.....
