In King County, Washington they want to put water meters on your well to make sure you do not use to much and would like to get water systems in so they can make you abandion your well (which costs money to seal it off)That way they can charge you for the water and have more control over you and raise the rates later! Where I used to live in Duvall they wanted to charge each home owner $20,000.00 to bring in a water pipe plus charge a monthley fee and usage. I get good water out of my well and do not like the chemicals they put in city water. The electrity isn't realy much a 1hp. pump can give about 28 gals. a min at .05 cents a hour thats 1680gals of water for a nickle, people pay in the city over a dollar for a quart of bottled water. The average water bill of 30.00 means you could have got 1,008.000 gals of water from your well. Thats alot of water!! As far as maintaining a well I have been on a well for 20 years and have never had to replace a pump, I have had to replace a control box (my fault MICE got to it) fixed a rubed wire my fault to. It cost $780.00 to install and buy my 1 1/2 hp pump in my well 350ft. did it my self divide that by 20 years and that is 3.25 a mo. I can live with that. If the water system goes down in the city I still have water too. No floride, clorine ect. I will stick with my well.Mark H.
