My wife and I bought 2300 acres in Brazil 2 years ago, got 5 250 acre pivots 100x120 machine shed, bunk houses for the help, cantina with kitchen and house for the farm manager, right on a river. Cost us 600,000 American, taxes 300. a year, we averaged 52 bu. beans at $5.52. The labor costs us $5.00 a day plus a meal per man (real good workers). My wife has a full time live in housekeeper cooks, cleans, does laundry and all the shopping, ( $150. a month). A new 8950 Case IH tractor mfwd cab all the bells and whistles cost $76000. Granted, we don't have any gov't give away programs, but we don't have all the taxes, the forms, the enviornmentalists, and the city slickers. A good farmer can make a very good living here, plus the farmers are looked upon with respect, not looked down on like in the states. We still own a farm in the states, but it is for sale, hopefully some city slicker will buy it. Believe me, We don't miss the states at all.
