I found my 8N started a lot better after I put new bearings and brushes in the starter. The automotive electrical shop didn't think it needed bearings, but they WERE worn. It was a lot less trouble to change bearings and brushes than to change them one at a time. Battery to starter cables are critical. 4 or 6 gauge import car cables won't cut it. 1 or 2 gauge are much better. Battery posts need to be cleaned to a shine, also the inside of the post connectors. Other connections at the other ends of those cables are critical. Then my 8N started after sitting OUTSIDE in several Iowa winters. 6 volt lamps can be more effective than 12 volt lamps, but only if the same care is taken to use adequate wire sizes. 18 gauge wire won't run a 6 volt headlight, 12 gauge may be marginal. Remember at 6 volts the same power takes twice the current, but there's half the tolerance for voltage drop so you need more like 4 times the wire cross section for the same performance. Gerald
