I don't think using a DC to AC converter would work very well using a solar powered source. Think power in to the converter = power out of the converter minus losses. I believe a typical 150 lamp string uses about 1 amp at 120 VAC. That equals 120 volt-amps (power out of the converter). That would require putting in more than 10 amps at 12 volts to get the 120 volt-amps (power in to the converter). No simple solar charger can give that kind of current.
