Well gentlemen, this is a tough one but I'll ring in just for the sake of conversation. I've never had any experience with this tractor but I've done a good bit of reading about it. It was labeled the "motor cultivator" and was produced by IHC around 1917 or so. It was never put into production and remained in the experimental file until it was morphed into the "farmall" after years of experimentation. It is reminiscent of the old moline universal but it is driven from the rear instead of the front. It had three wheels, was built on a sort of triangular frame, had the engine mounted on the very rear of the machine, and all implements were pretty much specially fitted to a machine. It was an extremely complicated machine. It was also dangerous to use on any kind of sloped ground since it's top-heaviness could cause a roll over. If any of you happen to have the book "150 years of international harvester" you might check the section on tractors. There are some pretty good pictures of this machine. I believe that it would be a good candidate for this post especially since it never went into production, thus eliminating the possibility of emotional ties obscuring judgement. I do know this, however, I've worked with a few complicated tractors before but I believe this one is one that even I wouldn't want to work on. As a matter of fact, in order for this thing to work properly IHC probably would had to have included a company engineer with each tractor. It did look interesting though and served its purpose when the knowledge gained from it lead to the development of one of the most popular tractors, the "farmall".

Today's Featured Article - Third Brush Generators - by Chris Pratt. While I love straightening sheet metal, cleaning, and painting old tractors, I use every excuse to avoid working on the on the electrics. I find the whole process sheer mystery. I have picked up and attempted to read every auto and farm electrics book with no improvement in the situation. They all seem to start with a chapter entitled "Theory of Electricity". After a few paragraphs I usually close the book and go back to banging out dents. A good friend and I were recently discussing our tractor electrical systems when he stated "I figure it all comes back to applying Ohms Law". At this point ... [Read Article]
