Paul has a really good post there and I agree with him. I have another comment. Why don't they simply build new style tractors with all the new features that are easy to work on and will last a long time. I don't believe manufacturers are using the technology they have to make a tractor that is long lasting. If it don't wear out, they won't have a chance to sell you a new one 15 or 20 years down the road (that's why). A manufacturer wouldn't be there if it wasn't for customers buying stuff and so they remain geared up to keeping the customer coming back for more. If that means changing models every few years, or discontinueing parts, or using parts that aren't interchangeable than that is what the manufacturer is going to do to drum up return buisness. The average life exspectancy for most of our automobiles is only 7 or 8 years. The automobile industry is banking on you buying a car at the end of that time frame. I know they could do better than that using modern technology but they won't so they can mantain consumership. Its not just automobile and tractor manufacturers, they got us all the way around. Lawn mowers, chain saws, A.T.V.'s, refrigerators, vacum sweapers, air conditioners, you name it. I got an International refrigerator in my home that was a demonstrator in the 40's. My Grandmother bought it at a reduced price and brought it home and plugged it in. That was the only refrigerator she ever owned and it has never been worked on and it is still plugged into the wall and working fine. New refrigerators now are lucky to last 5 or 6 years. Will I replace it? No, I am going to see just how long that old refrigerator will last. I think the corperate buisness world has got us all right under there thumb and I don't see anything that is going to change the whole situation in the near future.
