If you still have the 6 volt system, try replacing the battery with an 8 volt battery. We used to just drop them in wilth no mods to the electrical system and never had any problems. our last 2 tractors we have sprung for the 12 volt conversion because while the 8 volt lasts longer than the 6, we still get longer life and faster spin with the 12
