Sorry, I too once thought brake fuid would be good. You better get that tractor apart soon. Don't leave it until next spring or it will be seized real good. I have found that brake fluid is corrosive. Take a look at any older brake master cylinder; rusty? How about an older hydraulic valve- any rust? I have not found diesel fuel very effective either. I have had best results with WD40 (other similar products may also do the job) as it wicks well and disolves rust. (Next time you leave a wrench out long enough to get rusty (but not pitted rusty) wipe it off with WD40- it will disolve the rust.) The chance of success will be greatly improved if you run boiling hot water through the block or if possible to heat the engine water with an electric block heater. Plug it in for a day, unplug it for a day, then plug in for a day etc., etc.. This will expand the cylinders an help the WD40 wick down through the piston and cylinder. Now that you have already used brake fluid hot water/heating will also help with that. I would think that the vinegar solutions that others have mentioned may also be good as vinegar does disolve rust. I would question how well it would get down into the piston and cylinder but I would not differ with someone who has had success with it.

Today's Featured Article - Tractor Hydraulics - The Basics - by Curtis Von Fange. Hydraulics was one of the greatest inventions for helping man compound the work he can do. It’s amazing how a little floor jack can lift tons and tons of weight with just the flick of a handle. What’s even more amazing is that all the principals of hydraulic theory can be wrapped up in such a small package. This same package applies to any hydraulic system from the largest bulldozer to the oldest and smallest tractor. This short series will take a look at the basic layout of a simple hydraul ...
