That is what is nice about those tractors. If you didn't want to drag around all that extra weight you didn't have to there by saving fuel. A tractor that is to be used for light work doesn't need to be heavy and if you had a tractor that was going to be used for primary tillage or something where weight was desired then you could equip the tractor with weights. This saved money in fuel and tractor cost and even with the cost of extra weight the Allis was still cheaper than most others.

Back when these tractors were new the Allis dealers use to go a demonstrate in the field against any dealer and any make. Our dealer never lost out to anyone and the 60 JD was among the easiest to beat. It got so that some of the competition would refuse to go up against the 45.
