Hi Robert, I figured I would get some feedback on this post of mine. I worked for a smaller Ford dealership and can't speak for all manufacturer's and each individual dealership. The dealership that I worked for was samll enough that I done everything from A to Z. Not enough mechanics there to specialize in certain area's. In my opinion, that makes you a better mechanic becuase you have to have the talent and knowledge to do everything and not just getting good at one thing like putting door handles on. Most dealerships have customer satisfaction comes first and for good buisness that is a must. If the customer wants you to change the air in his tires you change the air in his tires just to keep him happy and smiling. Tell him its not necassary and he might get mad and not come back. See what I mean? No need to make customer mad over what brand of oil becuase an engine is more than likely going to run past warranty no matter what kind of oil. If they don't make it past the warranty the dealerships have some lee way on drawing up the claim to get the company to pay for it on the warranty. The dealerships themselves draw up the claim. They can just say it had a damaged head gasket and got antifreeze in the oil and created the problem or whatever. If it gets past the warranty the dealership don't have to worry about it anymore. Yep, that's right. It's on you then. Most dealerships have some flunky changing oil and that is all he does. May not be aware of problems with certain oils and the parts guy sure isn't going to know. I am not aware of oil related problems with G.M. but I know other manufacturer's do. Ford by the way says on a sticker inside the hood "Warranty requires such and such brand and such and such weight". I think Quaker State is a pretty descent oil and I use it as a universal oil on stuff of mine that I fill doesn't make any difference, but that kind of relates to my much older stuff. Like my 10 year old wore out lawn mower and my gas tractors. But that is just my own opinion on Quaker State. I guess my post didn't make a believer out of you on using the correct oil brand but I will assure you that if you have the right vehicle, the wrong oil brand will cuase engine where and it will start using oil. Maybe G.M. hasn't had this problem in the past and I hope they don't in the future. If I was driving a newer G.M. I would be using recommended oil just to be on safe side. I was real carefull about not using name brand oils in my original post or specific manufacturers becuase I didn't want to start an out-in-out war. And no, I don't want to get into a fued over G.M. versus Ford. But as for me, I'm sticking right with my original statement, not trying to but heads if you can respect that.
