: I currently have the head off of my 1951 MT. I am : thinking of porting and polishing the ports. Is : it worth the time? How much actual power increase : is there? What tools will I need? I already have an : air die grinder. Thanks for any information. Joe The "M" series machines suffer more from low compression than low gas flow. Putting a set of high compression pistons in and running on gasolene only would make more of a power increase than porting and polishing the heads. Of course, the nature of the 2-cylinder engines makes horsepower increases difficult, anyway. There's a lot of stagnent time in the gas flow, followed by a sudden high demand. In other words, it starts and stops too much. Finally, you're faced with a cooling problem. Higher horsepower means higher heat generation. The 'M' has no water pump, and the thermo-siphon cooling system is geared to dissipate the heat loads in the stock engine. In other words, leave it all alone and it'll be much happier.....
