: : I was browsing thru my CT Farm catalog while in the reading room tonight, and noticed the catalog had what looked like two different types of limit chains. (1998 Catalog, verse and chapter to come).

: : Page 267, lower right corner shows what appear to be a couple of chains called "Mower Deck Stabilizer" part#145050-063. It looks like two chains that attach at the toplink and as it says, maintain "consistent mower height and eliminates need for stabilizer bars..."

: : Now on Page 231, there's something called a "Stay Chain Assembly" that looks to be very similar, as it is "designed to take the load off tractor hydraulic systems. Adjustable to any height needed. Fastens to top link pin on tractor and runs to lift are on equipment."

: : My question is are these the same sort of devices? If I don't get around to finishing my homebrewed limit chains, which of these would work? Any comments appreciated from those in the know!

: : Thanks in advance,

: : Jim

: They appear to be the same thing. If you asked the people at Central Tractor they most likely wouldn't know either. I suspect that Central Tractor is a subsiduary of the infamous J.C. Whitney Co. where their policy is, order something and take your chances. If not satisfied you can pay the shipping to return it.

While CT sometimes looks like the JC. Whitney of tractors, I don't they they are related. CT in the last year bought out Big Bear in most of Iowa and Missouri getting dozens of retail stores which they have stocked with tractor parts and cultivator shovels and full tool lines. JC Whitney is running too close to repeated bankruptcy to do such a thing.

Looks to me as if the stay chain assembly on page 231 and the Mower deck stabilizer on page 267 are precisely the same thing. Perhaps the mower deck stabilizer is heavier construction or longer chain.

I have one of them, I don't know which. I've used it as a sway stabilizer to pull the plow to the right hanging it on the stabilizer bar pin under the axle.

Gerald
