It cooled off today and after taking some time off from wood cutting earlier this week when temps were in the 90s, we got back at wood cutting.
I got the other 300 RN running last week so my 14yro, helper could drive back and forth from his grandfather's where he is staying, to here each day. We hooked it on the smaller trailer today and made a load of wood. We got back here to the house and he had trouble stopping it. He is quite small and doesn't have much lead in his butt, so after unloading and stasking the load I took the brakes apart and deglazed the discs with the sander and took my rotary die an modified the ramps so the balls on the disc expanders rolled up the ramps easier.
The 3rd we waxed tractors to take to 4th parade, and it was still hot yesterday, so I handed wrenches to Dustin and worked with him to get his fathers SC ready to run again. A tree limb fell on it about 3 years back and it hasn't run since.
I'm not just sure how it ran before the tree fell on it, as it had no compression on #4 cyl. and hardly any on #2. Exhaust valve lash non existent on both cyls. Readjusted them and all is fine there, but the IH distributer conversion put on it was full of water and rust. Had to dismantle the distributer and free up the advance and clean it all up. The exhaust/intake manifold was also broken, but I have a doaner out back to replace that along with the gas tank and hood.
Got to wait for parts to arrive now before we go further.
Hoping Dustin is learning as we go along.
