: I bought a Long 3 pt. hitch backhoe and attached it to my Massey Ferguson 250. It is the type that has its own PTO driven pump with the hydraulic reservoir built into its frame. I believe that I have found one reason that these are not too popular - in continuous digging, the fluid and cylinders get hot and it loses most of its digging and lifting power.

: I guess that I could re-plumb it and run it off my remotes for more fluid capacity. Does anyone know of another way to help this? Any comments on use of these backhoes in general?

It is possible that the oil is foaming. When a hydraulic system has a restricting on the intake side whether it be to small a micron filter or plugged up screen or a kink in a suction hose ot even a pin hole leak that air can be sucked in will cause the oil to foam, thus making the unit weak. Also be careful about using the Long bachoe on the three point. The Long 1190 is really to large just to mount on a farm tractor three point. It will damage the lift quadrant where the top link connect. It is best to make a sub frame to mount the hoe on if you plan to use it very much. I know of past customers who have used this model in their business and have used it all day, day after day without problems other than the usual wear and tear.
