You need the car transmission to cut the engine speed down to what the tractor was. Without that half open or even possibly a third open on gas is all you could run it without over speeding the tractor. And then at that slow a speed it would have no power and you could not slow down tractor enough to make a turn without flipping, Ford flat head V8 was most popular but I have known of a couple of tractor that had straight 8 engines, think Chrysler put in them. One is actually an F30 and not a F20 and pulled a 5 bottom plow.
