Steve, You don't describe your spray gun, but here goes. Usually most spray guns are siphon fed out of the cup. The air flowing through the tip when the trigger is pulled goes through a venturi and siphons the paint into the air stream. One knob on the gun should control the amount of paint that is metered into the air stream. The other knob controls the air going through the head which flattens the paint stream and fans out. The fanning air should go through a small hole in each of the two projections on each side of the spray head. You need about 50 PSI at the gun to get an effective paint fan. If the viscosity of the paint is too viscous (thick or not very mobile), the paint will sputter in globs instead of giving a uniform atomized spray. If the viscosity is too low, the paint will result with runs on the painted surface. If the spray gun is not a siphon feed gun, then pressure forces it out of the cup and depending on the design you may or may not have a fanning adjustment. Any basic suggestions?
