: I recently purchased a Farmall. Being a total tractor newbie I thought it was a Cub. The seller told me it was a Cub Cadet. Its pretty much complete and original in great shape. Once home and researching the net trying to learn "It" I realized that it was either an A or Super A. ID plate under the seat on left post reads FAA 262797. FAA s/b an A but there is a 4th hole in the right side of the engine hood cowl, spoke front wheels and a vertical metal radiator grill IH enblem, things found on Super A's. How do I tell definately? What was the 4th hole used for? What is the battery ("It" has a 12 V battery but no generator or VR so "It" just may have a 12 V battery but 6 V system) polarity? Thanks, great site. I'd have to check my book on serial numbers to submit an answer but from the sound of it, you cannot trust the serial plate either. If I understand you correctly, it sounds like you have an A with a replaced grill assembly. The hole in the hood sounds like it was a hood for a duel fuel A. The extra hole was for the fiiler neck to the little gasoline tank which mounted to the left side of the head. Super A or A, this was a six volt tractor. If you could throw a picture of the machine on the net, we could do a better job at ID. My guess, Farmall A.
