Hi your biggest drawback repairing yours might be the metals junk to weld on. We run a 316 thats had the snot beat out of it before the 17 years we have owned it, the last guy got it new and drove it like a race car !. All the mounting holes around the deck gearboxes have been welded or plated to strengthen them, and bearings and pulleys replaced more than once to. The motor had a rebuild 6 years ago as well. You probably can't get parts for a 5-10 year old $4000 mower because they didn't or don't expect them to last that long these days.
3 years ago dad got parts from Deere for the 316, the guy flat out told him Now is the time to totally re build that mower while parts are still available. The new replacement to the same spec as ours was $12000 Canadian then. His words were the new one looks real nice, but you wouldn't want it after the 316 it's a way better built machine!
