That is great to see the next generation starting to run equipment. Have not owned a combine for about 25 years since I have very little acreage of wheat and milo so I run a combine for my son each year (we run two machines) and he cuts my stuff. Couple of years ago son told me "get Zane (grandson) in there and teach him how to operate it. He was only 13 at the time but very savvy about equipment as he was already swathing, round baling, raking, etc. So after a couple of hours behind the wheel each day for a few days we finished and then the next year repeated the process but eventually let him "solo" and he has done great since with very few mishaps. I didn't run a combine when I was young as I was the truck driver since age 14, which was legal back in the 50's. But when I was about 16 or so started running a JD 55 as dad bought a second 55 and I had younger brothers who could do the truck driving. Bought my first combine, a 1959 JD 95 with 16' header in 1968. I think there is a little sage advice in what Patton (I think it was him???) told his leaders: "Don't tell the troops how to do things, tell them what needs to be done and they will surprise you with their ingenuity" (or something to that effect).
