: I recently had a new armature and regulator put on a 12V generator for my A JD. Of course at the repair shop the generator was putting out the recommended voltage under load and without load. But when I get it home and install it my amp gauge shows zero and neg 10amps when lights are on regardless if generator is running or not. It is set positive ground, wires are connected right, no broken wires, lead to bat term of regulator has battery current. Basically everything up to the generator looks correct. Belt is tight enough to spin generator while tractor is running. I suspect a ground problem. Could any of you experienced tractor buffs please advise. I've already taken the generator back to the shop and he increased the voltage setting on the regulator. Thank you in advance for your time.

Chuck, 3 things to remember when working on an electrical system of an old tractor of any make. When you replace the generator replace the regulator, then after that is done always check for proper grounding from cleaning the generator mounting bolts, the battery connections ignition switch, lights etc. A good friend of mine who operates a generator and starter repair shop told me that nearly half the time there is a generator or starter proplem it is caused by faulty grounding.

Good Luck, SEA
