Getting stuff done!

We got done with planting the regular crops a couple weeks ago, so I've been screwing around on not so important stuff since. I worked up a little 4 acre field for my sunflower plot. Since this is new to me, I can only wait and see how it turns out. This little field hadn't had a crop or been turned in 35-40 years, so it took a little fitting to get it all worked under and level. I was going to plant them with our corn planter, but it was back at the home farm in the adjoining county, and I didn't feel like hauling it back over here to the farm I live at. I did however still have one of the drills here, so I set it to the specs on the chart on the lid, and blocked off some of the holes to give me 28" rows. It planted well, and looks good. Soil has good moisture and temperature, so now I just have to wait and see what happens. Also, due to high deer losses in our fields adjoining woods, we decided to try a different approach for fun this year. We left about 75' of unplanted soil in the fields where they meet the woodlots. We are hoping by planting sorghum there that the deer will go after that first, or at least more than the corn and soys. So we got all those spots seeded and lightly disked in and packed tonight as well. If it doesn't work, oj well, we like to experiment with stuff like that. Above is the tractor we use for seeding stuff, a Farmall AV. It's a handy little guy, and moves along down the road pretty good, so it's good to see it get used. Yesterday, I made a deal with a rock buyer that is going to buy all our stone piles, and remove all the stones from my cousin's field that we farm. Our rock piles aren't that big of a deal, but the ones on my cousin's make a big, stone filled lane about 50' wide down the center of a 50 acre field, and it sure will be nice to have them gone. He is supposed to get after it in a couple of weeks.
