Filters by default, cannot filter too much or they will not allow enough oil flow. So any filter will do pretty well. If your running longer, more pleats is important. If your running shorter, any filter will do the same.
Bypass filters the are set up to be out of the main oil path to the engine, by default can super filter the oil and not starve the engine...So they can properly filter super fine particles.
If you run cheap oil, no filter is will save the engine.
good oils are made by default to suspend particles and keep them from clumping and becoming bigger particles. By doing this, the particles stay small enough to not do damage, and not become sludge. These anti clumping additives actually make the oil turn darker faster. This does NOT mean the oil is bad. Just that is working as designed.
