: The starter cranks the engine at a good speed but the (diesel) engine does not fire off until I've cranked for a while. There is plenty of blue smoke so I believe there is enough fuel is getting in. When it starts it seems a little rough but basically OK. Where sould I begin to make it start easier before I wear out the starter? If you haven't changed the fuel filter yet, do it. While it is off check for good flow from the tank. If it runs ok after starting, this may not help, but it's the cheapest thing to do first. Next, pull the injectors & have them tested for pressure & spray pattern. Most Dealers can do this for you. While the injectors are out, have a compression check done. Your problem will relate to fuel or compression if the cranking speed is good. Diesel timing may be off, but I will guess not. Good Luck
