I use an aluminum bar that's an 1 1/2" diameter for stuff like that. That way if you have to beat on it, you won't wreck anything. We have the original steering arms on our 1066, 1086, and 1486, and we check the nuts on them every year before farming seaso, rarely ever have tonactually tighten them. The 826 has the OEM arms as well, but they seem to have been run loose before we got it, and need tightening more frequently. I worked on the steering of a friend's 1086 that had some sort of aftermarket steering arms, and you couldn't keep the stupid things tight for anything. Instead of the big nut on top, they had 2 horizontal bolts running through the cap into the steering arm, set up just like a connecting rod would be. What a horrible idea. If you want to use my aluminum bar, and happen to be south of Ithaca sometime, come on over.
