You do not "boil out" a carb with water. There are solvents for this. If your carb is not in bad shape, use some spray cans of carb cleaner from your local auto parts store. Be sure to spray it through all of the small passages in the carb. WEAR EYE PROTECTION. The stuff can squirt back into your eyes. If your carb is gummed up, you can go to a building supply and buy a bottle of the acid used for cleaning brick. This is Muratic Acid. Use this on the cast iron carb only. It will eat up aluminum. Put the stripped down carb body in a container and carefully pour the acid over it until it is covered. Let it soak for a while. BE CAREFUL, the carb cleaner or muratic acid will eat you just as well as the gunk in the carb. YOU CAN GET HURT. A local auto machine shop used to offer the service of cleaning up carbs. HOWEVER, their acid was well used and had lost it's zip. I could get better results at home.
