: : : : I know this is a little off the subject, but I'm desperate. Anyone have any de-skunking recipes out there? Dog trapped skunk underneath wife's new car last night. Momma ain't happy. Mine and dog's future uncertain. Need to "nutralize" situation fast. Any help with anykind of store-bought or homemade remedies would be very much appreciated. Thanks!!

: : : I have heard that tomato juice will neutralize the smell.
: : : Good luck. OB

: : I can't remember the recipe for sure but I saw it not 2 wks ago on the net in some newsgroup pertaining to skunks or perhaps rec.rural. There was a couple of scientific sorts who were talking about the uselessness of tomato juce and why. They had a recipe that I think was mainly hydrogen peroxide , drug store kind. Nothing to it really but don;t take my peroxide advice to heart until you look it up if you run a search in Deja news I' m sure youll find it. There were a few of them discussing this and whatever it was it was about that simple and they said it killed it instantly. Check dog discussions if you cant find it otherwise. Lots a luck

: Your advice was great! I did a 'skunk odor' search at Deja News; the following was one of several posts advising the same formula:
:
: >This is a proven remedy for removing skunk scent from your pets,
: >yourself, anything that got skunked. Developed by Paul Krebaum, it is
: >
: >not shelf stable, so you have to mix it when you get skunked, but the
: >products you can get from your grocery store and keep handy.
: >
: >1 quart hydrogen peroxide
: >1/4 cup baking soda
: >1 tsp liquid soap
: >
: >the soap breaks up the oils, and the H2O2 and baking soda get rid of
: >the odor.

: Too late to try this tonight but will tomorrow. Thanks again for the advice.
: Dan

I wonder if I use this on my Lab if I will have a bleach-blonde retriever????????
