I'm not sure what piece you mean; the only thing that is splined to the crankshaft is the clutch driving disc (that round, very heavy piece with the gear cast into it). This is supposed to be a tight fit on the crankshaft splines (requires a puller to get it off). There is a large bolt, lockwasher and flat washer on the end of the crank snout which keeps everything snug. If you can move this around you may have pounded out the splines on either the crank or the driving disc. Cross your fingers and hope it's the disc. You really should have the service manual and parts catalog, both available from JD and elsewhere. They will show you clearly what goes where... Charles (having a different clutch problem with my 50!).
