Had a couple unloading/loading insurance events. 1- Los Angeles airport, American Airlines, load of paper towels. Unloader drove forklift to dock ramp, stopped & got off. Asked if I knew how to operate forklift, she was prohibited from driving into trailer. Told her sure do & started in. Pull pallet to dock, jump off, she put pallet away, came back, repeat 23 more times. When foreman strolled by, I asked him about policy. He said too many claims for breaking through trailer floor if they drove in, but if I broke through, it would be on my nickel. After he looked, he told unloader that this was a brand new trailer, floor looked good, wouldn't be a problem, but she was right for following policy.
2- Textile factory in No Carolina, making a pickup late evening. Had to sign a release from "all liability in case of any accident" to get inside the gate. Told the guard that I had a reverse, get some other sucker to haul your stuff. Backed out, went to travel plaza (formerly called truck stop) & went to bed. Called my tour director (dispatch) next morning. He said call back in 20 minutes. When I called back he said try again. When I got to the gate, the bottom of the release form had been cut off, just fill in load info.
